Cherry Cottage is located in a tiny village called Aldeia Fundeira which is part of the council of Figueiro dos Vinhos and district of Leiria. The house is situated in a valley belonging to the Lousã mountain range "Serra da Lousã" part of the greater "Pinhal Interior Norte". The base of the valley is at an altitude of 400m and the surrounding mountains range from 700m to 1500m. We are surrounded by rich woodland and the 46km long Alge River runs through the area hence our region is best enjoyed for its clean air and beautiful nature and activities involving around them. Our cottage is lucky enough to have its own micro-climate, the surrounding mountains provide cover from the wind while the sun rises through the valley to provide gorgeous sunshine and warmth from dawn till dusk. Generally speaking it can be 5C warmer here comparing to other local villages.
The two nearest main towns are Figueiro dos Vinhos, 10km to the South, and Castanheira da Pera 10km to the North which cover all basic needs with supermarkets, farmer's market, butchers, bakeries, bank, post office, several cafes & restaurants, bus station and other shops etc. Historical university city Coimbra is 50 km to the north and we are less than 200km from both Lisbon and Porto. In central Portugal you can still see the old-world rural villages and people living modestly of the land and where traditions are still appreciated like pressing your own olive oil. Good example of honoring these customs are the renovated historical stone villages or "aldeias do xisto", typical to the region. Over the recent years there has been an influx of artists and writers to the area due to the peaceful and inspirational surroundings.
