Countless streams flow from the Serra da Lousã mountain tops down to the River Zezere
offering a wide array of freshwater fishing opportunities. Trout fly fishing can be done in local rivers as the
Ribeira de Alge, Ribeira de Pêra, Rio Arouce and Rio Ceira. Further down our local stream Ribeira de Alge,
Poeiro offers its own river fishing platforn which provides easy access to this remote location. The massive
waterdams of Cabril and Bouçã offer perfect conditions for open water fishing. We also have Foz de Alge which
is where our local stream Ribeira de Alge meets the river Zezere, consisting of a very open section of water
that attracts many lake fishing enthusiasts. The river Zezere it self offers unlimited sections of completely
private riverbeds for even the most secluded fisherman´s delight. The fly fishing European Championships were
held in 2012 and World Championships in 2006 near our region on River Ceira, Alva and Mondego. A general
regional license can be purchased in advance, while the local concessioned licenses can be purchased on the day.
There are 8 sanctioned (catch and release) sections for fishing in the Ribeira de Alge. The remaining
portions are considered reproduction areas. Our local fishing area is called Machuca situated only 3.5km
away from our cottage. In the Ribeira de Alge river you can expect to catch trout and native iberian
specimens as the "Boga", "bordallo" and the "barbo" which have all been rated as abundant. Fishing season
starts on the 1st of March and runs until 31st of July. A daily license for tourists is 5euros per section
(max 4 people/section/day).
Located in Poeiro near the Foz de Alge, the fishing platform is a unique place for fishing. Opened in
June 2009, it allows fishing lovers easy access to the river which under normal circumstances can be
difficult to get to. The "boga", the "barbo" and the "bordallo", all native species of the iberian peninsula
are the dominant species you can find here.
Góis is a lovely town north east from us (50min car drive) and offers one of the best locations for
trout fly fishing in our region. The area of the River Ceira surrounding the town is concessioned, meaning
a daily license is necessary (2 and 5euros for nationals and foreigners respectively). "Catch and release"
fishing is allowed from October1st until June 31st.
These two dams of the Zêzere provide excelent conditions for open lake fishing. Only recreational
boats are allowed in the dam, meaning rowing boats or boats with electrical engines (max speed 5km/h).
These areas are concessioned but daily licences can be easily purchased in local convenience stores.
Find a remote place along the river Zêzere and let time slip away as you await for your next big
catch! You can fish anywhere along the River Zêzere with a "regional licence" which can purchased in any
ATM machine at a cost of 3€ (central region).
This river is born on the North side of the Lousã Mountain range and flows down past Lousã offering
some spectacular fly fishing opportunities. Local license is necessary and can be bought in local stores.
The River Pera is born on the South Side of the Lousã mountain and gracefully dives down through the
towns of Pera, Castanheira da Pera and Mosteiro before it reaches its end in the Zezere. Known for its
trout it is a fly fishermans sure bet in the region.
